Public Space CCTV Monitoring

EFFECTIVE CCTV & SAFETY SOLUTIONS IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN

Almost daily, in the main news broadcast or in our newspapers, we read that CCTV cameras have played their part in the identification of suspects, leading to the arrest and sentencing of offenders, from incidents of street crime, personal attack, mugging and abduction to sophisticated organised crime, which may be spread over several counties, over a period of time, involving many people.

We now take for granted CCTV monitoring of the main centres of our larger towns, providing a crucial tool for crime prevention and crime detection.

Parish Councils unfortunately have missed out on many grant schemes that were available, with larger CCTV systems being installed in town and city centres. These systems have proved invaluable over time but when considering the integration of remote villages and smaller towns, costs are very high resulting in systems not being expanded.

With the introduction of broadband to more rural areas, CCTV can now be installed cost effectively within villages and small towns. Utilising advanced digital recording and transmission equipment, images from cameras can be viewed remotely from a Remote Video Receiving Centre (RVRC), enabling operators to monitor live images, control and move cameras.

GB Alarms have taken this a stage further to include ‘Interactive Monitoring’. This is exactly the same system that would be installed for CCTV monitoring but could include Help Points located at various positions within range of the cameras. In simple terms a Help Point is a two way audio system linked to the CCTV cameras. Upon the button being pressed a dome camera would automatically relocate to view a fixed area at the help point, two way audible communication would then be initiated between the help point and the Central Monitoring Station. Further loud speakers would be installed within the vicinity of the cameras, allowing the operator at the RVRC to speak over a tannoy system within the immediate area.

With CCTV systems installed by GB Alarms consider these typical scenarios....

1) A young woman is waiting alone at the bus stop. She is joined by a man who makes unwanted advances and makes her feel uneasy. GB Alarms have installed a “help point” on the wall near the bus stop. The woman activates this and the RVRC immediately view & speak to the lady to determine the problem, assess the situation and can take action - giving a warning to the man, alerting the police, and keeping the woman on camera should she leave the bus station and head back into the town centre.

2) Youngsters spill out from the pub. There is a fight brewing as the crowd head away from the town centre, but no police in attendance. A “help point” button is activated and again the RVRC speak to the person who has activated the help point and then observes the area, making a tannoy announcement alerting people of a presence, potentially defusing the situation, at the same time the relevant authorities can be informed who will take appropriate action.

GB Alarms have been installing and monitoring remotely monitored CCTV with live audible warning systems for more than a decade, in our fully approved, purpose built Remote Video Receiving Centre in Donington. This is not new technology. However, the products that we use are not “here today and gone tomorrow”. The latest generation of transmitters include the facility for firmware upgrades, and it is GB Alarms policy that these will be provided free of charge on maintenance visits, enabling new features to be utilised on existing systems.

Once a system is installed we will provide a maintenance service, ensuring the system continues to perform well for many years. As a result of system upgrades carried out on maintenance visits, these new features will then be discussed with you, demonstrating key features and benefits for future advances.

GB Alarms is a family run company with 25 years in the security business and is NACOSS GOLD accredited.
