EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS IN THE RETAIL ENVIROMENT

JACARANDA is a delightful shop in Spalding, Lincolnshire. With designer ladies clothes and shoes, a dazzling display of ceramics and glass, a host of imaginative occasional furniture and items to enhance every part of your home, JACARANDA attracts a lot of attention!

Without adequate security measures some of this attention would be of the wrong type. When the shop opened in 1998 the owners reviewed their security arrangements, with GB Alarms. They chose three comprehensive but cost effective security measures which were installed during the complete refurbishment of the premises prior to JACARANDA’s opening day. The intruder alarm was upgraded to Redcare, the most effective and secure system available. An article surveillance system was installed. This system sounds an alarm if someone attempts to leave the premises with goods that they have not paid for. Finally, it was realised that high quality staff should concentrate their time on helping customers. The shop is large and arranged as a series of ‘rooms’ on two floors. It would not be cost effective to have all of the areas staffed all of the time. JACARANDA needed some extra eyes to monitor activity in the shop. A GB Alarms ‘low cost’ CCTV system was installed. CCTV systems act inherently as a deterrent to unwanted behaviour. In this case the additional benefit is that the staff can ‘keep an eye’ on areas where they cannot be, and observe if there is a customer requiring attention.

Good security is based on taking effective measures that are appropriate, both in terms of the risks involved, and the cost of providing them.
